Who can file
This varies by state. In most places, surviving spouses, children, and parents have the first right to file. Other dependents may also qualify in certain situations.
What can be recovered
Funeral and burial expenses, medical bills from the final illness or injury, lost income and benefits the person would have provided, loss of companionship and guidance, and in some states, punitive damages where the conduct was especially egregious.
How we approach these cases
We take extra care when reviewing wrongful death inquiries. If a possible introduction is available, the independent participating attorney evaluates the matter and decides whether to proceed.
